- Thanksgiving
- Christmas Day
Trash and recycling will not be collected on these holidays.
Services will resume on the next working day and continue a day behind through the rest of the week, including Saturday.
If Independence Day, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day fall on a weekend, this schedule may vary. Details will be put in a press release and posted to the City’s News webpage as well as posted to the City’s Online Calendar with all other closing information.

Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
Large furniture, appliances, tree limbs and other large or bulky items that cannot fit in a trash container.
Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
Automotive parts, hazardous waste, and contractor spoils are not accepted for large item pickup. For such items, please consult the Rivana Solid Waste Authority’s Ivy Materials Ulitization Center.
Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.
If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
