Trash Pick Up Holidays

New Year’s Day – Monday, January 2, 2023

City offices will be closed on Monday, January 2, 2023, for the New Year’s holiday which falls on Sunday Jan. 1, 2023.  As a result, trash,” A” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the entire week.


Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Monday, Jan. 16, 2023

City offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023, for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. As a result, trash,” A” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the entire week.

Presidents Day – Monday, Feb. 20, 2023

City offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, for the Presidents Day holiday. As a result, trash, “B” recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the entire week.

Memorial Day – Monday, May 29, 2023

City offices will be closed on Monday, May 29, 2023, for the Memorial Day holiday. As a result, trash, “B” recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the entire week.

Juneteenth – Monday, June 19, 2023

City offices will be closed on Monday June 19, 2023, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday. As a result, trash, “A” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the entire week.

Independence Day – Tuesday, July 4, 2023

City offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.  As a result, Monday trash, “A” recycling, bulk and brush collection will be on regular schedule. However, Tuesday – Thursday trash, “A” recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.
 

Labor Day – Monday, Sept. 4, 2023

City offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, 2024, for the Labor Day holiday.  As a result, trash, “B” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the entire week.

Thanksgiving Holidays – Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24, 2023

City offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, for the Thanksgiving holidays. As a result, Monday and Tuesday trash, “A” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be collected on Monday, Nov. 20, 2023. Wednesday trash, “A” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be collected on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023. Thursday trash, “A” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be collected on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023. There will be no bagged leaf collection during this week.
 

Christmas Day – Monday, Dec. 25, 2023

City offices will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, in observance of the Christmas Day holiday. As a result, trash, “B” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the entire week.

New Year’s Day – Monday, January 1, 2024

City offices will be closed on Monday, January 1, 2024, for the New Year’s holiday. As a result, trash,” A” week recycling, bulk and brush collection will be delayed one day for the entire week.

Bulk Waste Pickup Calendar 2023

Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

Household furniture, mattresses, box springs, and appliances.

Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

No bagged or boxed trash will be collected as bulk except during leaf season when we collect bio-degradable bags only.

Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.

Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.

There are a number of junk removal services in Roanoke and I’m sure many of them will be able to help you out.
