Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
Appliances, furniture, mattresses, and other bulk items.
The City offers an option for a paid curbside collection of bulk items called a “Special Pick Up”.
The minimum curbside fee is $75.00 per load or any portion thereof. The city reserves the right to limit collection.
The service is limited to areas within the City limits (22401 ZIP CODE only) but subscription to trash service is not required.

The appointment must be made and fee paid in advance of placing any items on the curb.
Placing materials on the curb without prior collection arrangement is a violation of City Code §62 Solid Waste and subject to charges based on expenses of cleanup and City Code §38 Litter Control, subject to misdemeanor charge punishable by jail time, fines of $250-$2500 or both.
Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- Piles of loose debris or large volume of material from major yard renovation
- Whole house clean-out or items abandoned due to eviction
- Paint or hazardous chemicals/materials
- Construction debris
- Tree trunks or portions of trees
- Extremely heavy items
Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.
If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
