Trash Pick Up Holidays
The City of Tempe does not collect garbage or recycling on the following city-observed holidays.
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Day
All other holidays will follow the normal collection schedule and will not be affected.

Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- Furniture, large items (items that are unable to be donated)
- Non-Freon appliances (washers and microwaves – since these can be recycled, please consider dropping them off at the Household Products Collection Center)
Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- Appliances with Freon (refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, ac units)
- Hazardous materials (paints, oil)
- Construction and remodeling waste (drywall, flooring, and roofing materials)
- Tires
- Dirt, rock, and landscape gravel
Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.
If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
