If trash collection days fall within a holiday business week, the trash collection will be delayed by one day, on or after the holiday, for the rest of that week.
For example, Labor Day is a Monday so all trash pickup will be delayed for that week but Thanksgiving is a Thursday so only Thursday and Friday (the rest of the week) will be delayed. Another example is if Christmas Day officially falls on a Sunday, but is observed by the City on Monday, all trash pickup would not be impacted since the actual holiday is on a weekend, not during the business week.

The City of Westland will pick up and properly dispose of large/bulky items through a special garbage pickup. Use the form to request your special pick-up.
Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- Excess Trash Bags: Up to eight per week
- Carpet and Padding: must be cut into 4‐foot lengths or less and bundled together. Each bundle must weigh less than 50 pounds.
- Items that Cannot Fit into a Trash Can: Up to three items are allowed per week:

Note: Mirror glasses must be taped and secured in some fashion in case of breakage.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
