When will my trash get collected due to a holiday?

When a holiday falls on or before your normal pickup day (Monday – Thursday), service will occur on the following day. For example, if a holiday is on a Monday, the trash pickup schedule for the week is as follows:

Monday – Service will occur on Tuesday.
Tuesday – Service will take place on Wednesday.
Wednesday – Service will occur on Thursday.  
Thursday – Service will take place on Friday.

Weather and/or extenuating circumstances may also delay trash service by more than a day.

Bulk Waste Pickup Calendar 2023

Residents can request an extra pickup for yard waste or a large item.

Each household is allowed one extra pickup, equal to one cubic yard in size, per month at no charge.

Additional extra pickups for the month will be charged $20 per cubic yard. 

The extra pickup takes place on the same day as trash pickup.

Recycling and the Household Hazardous Waste facility are handled by the St. Joseph County Solid Waste Management District, not the City of South Bend.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 828 Kerr Street, accepts electronics of all kinds, batteries, mercury, pesticides/herbicides, tires, waste fuels, and more.
