When will my trash get collected due to a holiday?

When a holiday falls on or before your normal pickup day (Monday – Thursday), service will occur on the following day. For example, if a holiday is on a Monday, the trash pickup schedule for the week is as follows:

Monday – Service will occur on Tuesday.
Tuesday – Service will take place on Wednesday.
Wednesday – Service will occur on Thursday.  
Thursday – Service will take place on Friday.

Weather and/or extenuating circumstances may also delay trash service by more than a day.

Bulk Waste Pickup Calendar 2024

The City offers three options for extra pickups:

You can request one yard waste pickup AND one bulky item or appliance pickup per month at no charge. Additional extra pickups for the month will be charged $20 per cubic yard. A pickup date will be provided after you submit your request.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.

Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.

Recycling Collection Calendar 2024

Recycling and the Household Hazardous Waste facility are handled by the St. Joseph County Solid Waste Management District, not the City of South Bend.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility, located at 828 Kerr Street, accepts electronics of all kinds, batteries, mercury, pesticides/herbicides, tires, waste fuels, and more.
