Bulk Waste Pickup Calendar 2024

Furniture
The waste hauler will take most household furniture (no business furniture please) as long as it’s put out correctly.  All furniture must be out to the curb by 7:00 a.m. of your regular refuse day.

The waste hauler will not dispose of mattresses with bed bugs, mattresses that are too heavy (were rained on making them too heavy), or business furniture (household file cabinets, desks, etc. are fine).

Please leave furniture whole, if furniture is broken down then it must be less than 4 feet in length and bundled weighing less than 40 pounds per bundle.

Appliances & Large Metal Items
A separate truck picks up large metal items such as appliances, hot water tanks, etc. for recycling on the same day as your regular refuse day. Items must be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. of your refuse day. Please separate these items from your regular refuse by 2 – 3 feet. Refrigerator and freezer doors must be removed for safety reasons due to state law (just place doors to the side). If you live on a cul-de-sac, dead-end or apartment/condo complex the Department of Public Service office should be notified the day prior to your refuse day by calling 248) 246-3300.

Please note, smaller items such as microwaves, small metal car parts (no engines), metal garden furniture, small metal furniture, etc. should be taken to SOCRRA, 995 Coolidge (across from the Meijer gas station), for recycling.

Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.

Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.

There are a number of junk removal services in Royal Oak and I’m sure many of them will be able to help you out.
