Trash Pick Up Holidays

Here you can see the city-observed holidays.

There will be no solid waste or recyclable materials collections in Service Area 1 or Service Area 2 on the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Mardi Gras Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

The City will publish an alternate collection schedule in advance of each holiday.

Solid waste collections occur 365 days per year in the French Quarter and Downtown Development District (DDD).  Recyclable materials collections do not occur on the holidays listed above in the French Quarter & DDD and will resume on the next scheduled collection day.

Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

  • White goods
  • Sofas
  • Mattresses
  • Appliances
  • Furniture
  • Carpet (rolled and tied, cut in less than 4-foot lengths) 
  • Up to 6 bags of yard waste (bagged leaves, weeds, grass, small vegetation/hedge clippings).
  • Up to 6 bundles of tree branches cut in less than 4-foot lengths
  • Up to 4 tires

Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

  • Construction and demolition materials
  • Televisions
  • Household Hazardous Waste

Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.

Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.

There are a number of junk removal services in New Orleans and I’m sure many of them will be able to help you out.
