Residents receiving city-provided trash and recycling services can place bulky items directly next to the trash cart for collection.
Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- stoves
- TVs
- washers
- refrigerators
- furniture
- swing sets
- mattresses
Refrigerator and /or freezer doors must be removed before placing outside for collection. The Elyria Sanitation Department will not accept any appliances containing refrigerants. Refrigerators, freezers and/or air conditioners that have been discarded must first have the Freon discharged and the appliance tagged by certified technicians. Only after items have been properly sealed by technicians will the City of Elyria pick them up.

- dirt or rocks are not acceptable

Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.
If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
