Whenever a scheduled collection day falls on a holiday, that day’s collection and all remaining collections for that week will be delayed one (1) day.

Friday pickup will be on Saturday’s during these situations.

Bulk Waste Pickup Calendar 2024

For residents on Town waste collection service, the Dept. of Public Works offers a special collection service for up to four (4) bulky and metal items per week.

  • Special Bulky Items cost $10 each
  • White Goods (Large Home Appliances like Fridges, Stoves, etc.) and electronics cost $20 each
  • Mattresses cost $55 each

Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

The Sanitation Division will pick up large bulk items, including: 

  • Couches
  • Mattress & boxsprings
  • White goods such as Freezer
  • Stove
  • Refrigerator
  • Air conditioner
  • CRT’s such as Monitor
  • Television

Customers must call (617) 730-2156 and schedule any and all bulky item pickups at least one week ahead in advance. 

Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Glass bottles
  • Hazardous wastes
  • Lumber or other home construction materials from home repair
  • Metal items or cans
  • Ni-cad batteries
  • Recyclables such as newspapers
  • Rubber tires
  • Yard waste (grass, leaves, and brush)

Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.

Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.

There are a number of junk removal services in Brookline and I’m sure many of them will be able to help you out.

When is bulk pickup in Brookline?

Bulk Items must be scheduled one week in advance for collection. Bulk Items should not be placed out earlier than 3:30 PM the day before collection and no later than 7:00 AM the day of collection.
