Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

  • Small cabinets, toilets, carpet and other items from homeowner repairs.
  • Limbs cut to less than 12 feet in length and less than 12 inches in diameter.
  • All types of appliances and furniture.
  • Fencing panels from small repairs (think one to three panels).
  • Small piles of shingles from minor repairs.
  • Leaves that are placed behind the curb. Do not put limbs and other debris on leaf piles at curb during “leaf season” when we are using vacuum machines for collection (roughly October – January). Bagging leaves is acceptable and will expedite the removal process.
  • Small (think wheel barrow full) piles of brick, rock and other items from the homeowner.

Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

  • Excessive fencing from a contractor or homeowner repair will not be collected. Please call 256-341-4740 if you have questions or you are not sure.
  • No shingles from a contractor will be collected.
  • Hazardous waste

Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.

Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.

There are a number of junk removal services in Decatur AL and I’m sure many of them will be able to help you out.
