- Independence Day on July 4th:
- Tuesday, July 4th garbage and cans, bottles, and plastic recycling collection for North End, Heights, Brookside rescheduled for Wednesday, July 5th
- Tuesday, July 4th Yard Waste postponed; resumes Tuesday, July 11th
- All other collections remain unchanged
- Labor Day on September 4th:
- Monday, September 4th garbage and paper and cardboard recycling collection for Downtown and South Wilkes-Barre 1 rescheduled for Tuesday, September 5th

- Thanksgiving Day on November 23rd:

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
