- Good Friday (Friday before Easter Sunday)
- Easter Monday (Monday following Easter Sunday)
- Early May Bank Holiday (first Monday in May)
- Spring Bank Holiday (last Monday in May)
- Summer Bank Holiday (last Monday in August)
- Christmas Day (December 25th)
- Boxing Day (December 26th)
Your rubbish and recycling will be collected as normal on all Bank Holidays except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. When these fall on a weekday, collections will be one day later than usual for the rest of that week.

Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- Household waste items that are too big for the bin (e.g. furniture and appliances)
- Appliances, such as: Free standing electrical goods (not American style fridge/freezers)
- Furniture (Sofa beds need to be dismantled)
- Other bulky household waste items (that can be safely lifted by two people)
- Refuse and garden waste sacks. Up to three will be charged as one bulky item. Please note that this only applies to standard sized refuse sacks. We cannot collect Hippo/builders bags designed for mechanical lifting
- Free standing glass sheets or panes; for example, table top, mirrors. They should be wrapped to allow for safe transit
- Any item that is 6ft long must be broken up into small manageable pieces for it to fit within the collection vehicle.
- Sofa bed must be dismantled into manageable pieces. Each piece will be charged as 1 item.
Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- Anything that cannot be lifted safely by two people. If you need such items collected, break them down into pieces that can be safely lifted
- Any items not listed on the booking form. Commercial or American style fridge/freezers.
- Waste from works of construction/demolition or preparatory works (e.g. rubble, plasterboard, fitted kitchen units, fitted bathtubs, fitted carpets, doors etc).
- Commercial or industrial waste
- Earth, stones and soil
- Household hazardous waste collection and disposal are offered through a separate service, for example:
- Any item that is 6ft long and will not fit into collection vehicle
- Motor vehicle parts
- Oil or liquids
- Clinical waste
Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.
If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
