The council can collect large, unwanted items that you cannot re-use or recycle, if they will not fit in your wheelie bin. Each collection costs £19.70, for up to 2 separate items or 2 bags. Additional items cost an extra £9.30 each.

Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- white goods and large electrical items, including fridges, freezers, washing machines
- cookers
- lawnmowers
- carpets
- bed frames
- mattresses
- furniture
- televisions
- small electrical items
Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup
- clinical waste
- hazardous waste
- car parts
- tyres
- plasterboard
- garden waste
- rubble, building waste or waste in heavy-duty builders bags
- very large or heavy items, such as pianos

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
