If your collection day falls on a holiday and that holiday is a Monday or Tuesday, collection takes place the preceding Saturday. If the holiday falls on a Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, collection takes place the following Saturday.

Bulk Waste Pickup Calendar 2024
Single-unit homes are permitted 1 bulky item each garbage collection day.
Multi-unit dwellings (up to 6 units) may place a total of 2 bulky items for each garbage collection day.
Weight limit of a bulky item is 200 kg (440 lb)
All material must be curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. Material shall not be placed on the curb for collection before 7:00 p.m. the night before your scheduled collection day

Appliance Retirement Program – you may be eligible for free, in-home pickup and an incentive through Efficiency Nova Scotia to retire your old refrigerator, freezer, or room air conditioner. The appliance must be manufactured prior to 2001 and be in working order to qualify for the program.
Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.
If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
There are a number of junk removal services in Halifax and I’m sure many of them will be able to help you out.
