Bulk Waste Pickup Calendar 2024

Hackney Council offers a Monday-to-Friday collection service for large items. There is a cost to booking a bulky waste collection – unless you receive housing benefits. To book a bulky waste collection, click here.

Acceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

  • unusable furniture
  • large appliances like televisions, fridges, and washing machines
  • mattresses

Unacceptable Items for Bulk Pickup

  • Wet items left out in the rain
    • We won’t collect wet items left out in the rain because the rainwater adds extra weight to the items making them too heavy to move. You should cover the items with a plastic sheet. If the items are wet we will not remove the items on the scheduled collection day. We will make another attempt to collect 48 hours later.
  • Building or DIY waste
    • rubble
    • masonry and tiles
    • construction waste
    • fencing
    • carpet
  • Small electrical items like DVD players, computers, hair dryers and kettles
  • Sacks or bags of rubbish
    • These will be collected as part of your regular household waste collection.
  • Garden waste
    • Use the garden waste collection service or take it to a reuse and recycling centre.
  • Hazardous waste
  • Any waste from landlords, tradesmen or businesses

Have bulky items the city won’t pick up? You need a junk removal service.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.

Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.

There are a number of junk removal services in Hackney and I’m sure many of them will be able to help you out.
