In the event that an observed holiday falls on a Sunday – Friday, collection for the remainder of the week will be provided one day late. If a holiday falls on a Sunday, Monday will be an off day with service delayed one day the remainder of the week.
For example, if the holiday falls on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday—Thursday collection will take place Friday and Friday collection on Saturday, etc. For holidays that fall on a Saturday, collection will not be affected.

Bulk Waste Pickup Calendar 2024
Groot will collect large household items that do not fit in your garbage container. These large items will require the use of one prepaid sticker for each item set out that does not exceed 50 pounds per item. Bulk items placed at the curb in excess of 50 pounds but less than 75 pounds will require two stickers. Items that cannot be safely lifted by the driver, regardless of weight, may require a special collection; contact Groot Customer Service at 800-244-1977 for an estimate.

White goods require a special collection as required by the state. A $30.00 fee is charged per item for collection. Residents must call Groot Customer Service at 800-244-1977 at least 24 hours in advance to schedule a pickup.

Electronic Waste
Under the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, no person may knowingly cause or allow the mixing of any electronic items with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill. Residents must call Groot directly to schedule a pickup of electronic waste at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled service day. A scheduled
collection of electronic waste shall require a $30.00 charge that includes collection of up to six (6) items.

If you have large items that the city won’t take from you, you may need to hire a junk removal service.
Junk removal services are not be as picky about the items they’re collecting so if the city won’t take the item, this may be your best bet. There’s usually a fee involved with junk removal but most companies can tell you ahead of time approximately what it’s going to cost.
